Caliendo talks about encounter with Madden

May 26, 2011, 4:30 AM | Updated: 2:47 pm

PHOENIX – Comedian Frank Caliendo became famous partially for his impersonation of legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden.

Caliendo had never met Madden until the Super Bowl this past February in Dallas.

“I think I won him over,” said Caliendo on the Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Ash show on Wednesday.

The comedian spotted Madden in their hotel lobby and slowly worked his way towards an encounter.

“I didn’t want to make a big scene. It seemed like trying to ask a girl on a date,” said Caliendo.

Former Dallas coach Jimmy Johnson was finally the one who introduced the two.
