There’s little doubt that the Arizona Cardinals will find a way to travel to their away games next season, but a recent development with American Airlines — which the team has flown with since the company merged with US Airways in 2015 — could make it more difficult.
According to an internal memo obtained by Forbes, the Cardinals are one of six NFL teams who the airline has dropped from its list of chartered flights.
The other teams affected are the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.
In the memo, American Airlines explained the move was made “to ensure we have the right aircraft available for our passenger operation.”
However, the airline will still continue to provide its charter services to the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
The exact selection process to determine which teams it continued to fly is unknown, but the aforementioned memo stated that “the decision came down to available aircraft, location and input from senior leadership.”
