Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Brandon Drury left the Wednesday game against the San Diego Padres with a jammed right knee, and the team lists him as day-to-day.

The second baseman singled in the bottom of the fifth inning when he sprinted to beat Padres pitcher Trevor Cahill to the first-base bag. He did but hit the base awkwardly and fell down after the play. Drury remained in the game after an injury delay but did not return for the top of the next inning.

He was replaced by shortstop Nick Ahmed, sliding Chris Owings to second base.

An Ahmed-Owings middle infield could start in the coming days if Drury is out a longer period of time, but Drury is also one of the best batters through the first 23 games of the year with a .310 average.

Should the D-backs need a third body at second, veteran Daniel Descalso has experience there and started 14 games at second for the Rockies a year ago.
