Zack Godley will head back to Triple-A Reno after pitching five innings the same day he was called up to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The team optioned the right-hander after an 8-5 loss to the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
Such a move does not indicate any news regarding the injury status of Shelby Miller, the starter on the 10-day disabled list due to elbow inflammation, D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said.
“Every 24-hours we’re just reloading our thoughts,” he said. “No corresponding move — and (reliever) Archie Bradley will remain in the bullpen. We’re looking to get through the next couple of days.”
Godley allowed two earned runs and four hits along with three walks and six strikeouts, and Bradley followed him with three innings of one earned run allowed. The two combined for 11 strikeouts.
“Sporadic, but got the job done,” Godley said of his performance afterward. “All-in-all, I was happy with the outing.”
Arizona allowed five runs in the ninth inning, all off closer Fernando Rodney to blow a 5-3 advantage.
