ESPN mocks up hydro-dipped Diamondbacks helmet

The Atlanta Braves may start a trend this season with their new batting helmets, which will be unveiled Friday.

As ESPN.com’s Uni Watch blog notes, the helmets have the team’s traditional look, with one difference: they are hydro-dipped.

Hydro-dipping is a graphic process that is designed to give the helmets a more distinguished look. It has been used in the college ranks, and is invading Major League Baseball for the first time.

Whether the concept will catch on with other teams is anyone’s guess, but if it does, some pretty cool helmets could be the result.

In honor of the Braves’ new lids, Uni Watch decided to produce images of what some other teams could do with hydro-dipped helmets, and it’s safe to say they’re pretty great.

Here at ArizonaSports.com, we’re particularly fond of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ edition, with credit going to Angus O’Keefe and Cody Whitmire for the design:

Dbacks

This was an easy one. The D-backs already have snakeskin patterns on their caps and jerseys, so adding something similar to their helmet was a no-brainer.

Should they actually wear something like this? Absolutely! Like it or hate it, it fits in well with their current look. And hey, it’s not like they could possibly look much worse out there.

The knock on Arizona’s current threads nowithstanding, it’s safe to say they did a pretty good job on the helmet.
