Diamondbacks left-hander Robbie Ray’s scoreless streak ended on a fourth-inning, solo home run by Padres outfielder Hunter Renfroe on Tuesday, closing the books on a historic stretch of his career.

The run is long enough to place him third in the franchise record books with a scoreless streak of 27.2 innings.

Only Brandon Webb has strung together anything longer, once going 42.0 scoreless innings from July 20 to Aug. 17, 2007, and before that going 30.0 frames from May 20 to June 5, 2006.

Ray’s streak began at the start of his May 20 outing against the Padres. He went 7.2 innings in that game while allowing two hits before going 7.0 with another two hits in the following game at Milwaukee. A game before his Tuesday start, Ray pitched his first complete game shutout in a 3-0 win against Pittsburgh.

As for the fourth-inning home run by Renfroe, it didn’t halt Ray’s momentum in the 10-2 D-backs win. Arizona had already jumped out to a 7-0 lead through the second and piled on the Padres with three more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Ray (6-3) went 6.2 innings in the victory, allowing three hits and the single earned run. He walked two and struck out 11.
