Sedona Red Recap: Robbie Ray, four homers help D-backs thump Brewers

PHOENIX — What started as a pitcher’s duel between the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Robbie Ray and former D-back Chase Anderson ended up being another blowout win for the D-backs at Chase Field
Arizona clobbered Milwaukee by a score of 11-1, and Robbie Ray was outstanding again in 6.2 innings of work. He gave up just three hits and no runs while striking out 12 and walking four batters. He threw 107 pitches, 73 of which were for strikes.
Ray was once again efficient and effective, but so was his counterpart in former D-backs pitcher and current Brewers ace Chase Anderson, who has been having an outstanding season of his own for Milwaukee.
Anderson came into the game with a 5-1 record and a 22-inning scoreless streak that was immediately ended in the first inning by a Jake Lamb groundout RBI that scored David Peralta.
That would be the only offense either team would be able to muster through the first six innings as both starting pitchers were dealing.
Anderson ended his day after going six and only giving up one earned run along with four hits. He walked one and struck out eight.
Once Anderson left the game, the D-backs’ offense jumped all over the Brewers’ bullpen in the seventh inning. Brandon Drury, Chris Herrmann, and Peralta homered in the inning, allowing the D-backs to pull away for good.
Herrmann added an RBI double, and Paul Goldschmidt hit a grand slam in the eighth just for good measure as the offense piled it on the Brewers in the final two innings of work.
A combination of Archie Bradley and Silvino Bracho finished out the game for Arizona’s 39th win of the season.
THE GOOD
– Ray’s season high 12 strikeouts gives him three consecutive starts with 10 strikeouts or more, which he has reached in four of his appearances in 2017. He is the first pitcher since Randy Johnson in 2004 to record 10 or more strikeouts in three consecutive games for this club.
– The D-backs are 26-9 at home this season, which is a club record through 35 games.
– They have won 11 of their last 12 games at home and are now 14-3 in their last 16 games at home.
– This is the 10th series win for the D-backs in 2017.
THE BAD
– Silvino Bracho entered the game with an 11-0 lead and gave up a monster solo shot home run to Keon Broxton. Bracho’s ERA is currently 9.00.
– Despite his home run in the seventh inning and his RBI double in the eighth, Herrmann is only hitting .167 this season.
STAT OF THE GAME
Thirty-eight consecutive home games. With his double in the first inning, Paul Goldschmidt has now reached base safely in 38 consecutive home games at Chase Field, which is a franchise record.

NOTED
– Paul Goldschmidt moves into second for the most home runs by a single player in franchise history at 154, breaking the tie with Steve Finley. He only trails Luis Gonzalez, who has 224.
– Brandon Drury has now reached base safely in 43 of his last 45 games at home.
– Peralta has six multi-hit games in his last 11 starts.
– 30,370 fans were in attendance for this Sunday afternoon game.
UP NEXT
The D-backs are off Monday and then on to Detroit for a quick two-game series with the Tigers before heading to Philadelphia and Colorado on an eight-game road trip.
In game one against Detroit on Tuesday, the D-backs’ Zack Greinke returns to the lineup from paternity leave to improve on his 8-3 record against Buck Farmer (2-0, 0.00 ERA).
Greinke is 7-1 in his last nine starts with a 3.17 ERA. In 28 career games against the Tigers, Greinke is 13-7 with a 2.79 ERA. The game starts at 4:10 p.m. MST on Tuesday.
