(for his sake)
And you thought the Sharknado series (yes, there have been four of them with more on the way) was ridiculous.
According to SI’s Extra Mustard Blog, Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps will be swimming against a shark as part of Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week.”
The week of programming dedicated to the ocean’s top predators is always must-watch television, as it is not only exciting but also educational.
Chances are, the Phelps race will fit into the former category — if either.
The event, as explained in a press release from Discovery Channel:
“They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records. 23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark – the race is on! Produced by Peacock Productions.”
It is not yet known what kind of shark Phelps will be pitted against, nor how they will get the race to go down with the shark swimming the right direction while not eating its competitor.
Regardless, it’s probably safe to say we will all tune in to see it on July 23.
