Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson was honored that his peers voted him as the 19th-best player in the NFL and the top player at his position.

That said, No. 1 is better than 19.

“Truly appreciate my peers voting me #1 CB, but can’t rest until I’m #1 overall,” he tweeted after the NFL Network revealed his ranking in their top-100 list this summer. “Haters go ahead & @ me! I know it’s comin!”

Judging from that comment, you can bet Arizona’s veteran corner will read the following and feel he has more to prove there as well. NFL.com’s Gil Brandt ranked Peterson as the 17th-best cornerback — ever.

That’s because Peterson has six Pro Bowls and three First Team All-Pro honors under his belt.

He has proved durable through six seasons, starting every regular season game on the schedule, and has recorded 20 interceptions and 63 passes defensed during that time. Peterson has been so good that after recording double-digit passes defensed in his first three seasons, teams have decided against throwing his way the past several years.

So who is ranked ahead of Peterson on Brandt’s list?

Deion Sanders comes in first and is followed in order by Rod Woodson, Mike Haynes, Charles Woodson and Willie Brown.

Former Phoenix and Arizona Cardinals cornerback Aeneas Williams comes in ranked No. 8 for his eight Pro Bowls and three First Team All-Pro selections, plus his 55 career interceptions.

Current Seattle Seahawks corner Richard Sherman follows at ninth, and free agent Darrelle Revis ranks just ahead of Peterson at No. 16.
