D-backs’ Ketel Marte scoots for stand-up, inside-the-park home run

This is what you might call a baseball bank shot.

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Ketel Marte drilled a liner to right field, and it was right in the Chase Field corner pocket that outfielders likely don’t want to go. The ball not only didn’t get caught by Atlanta Braves right fielder Sean Rodriguez but careened off the fence and bounced into foul territory, off another wall and back into the play.

Marte was streaking around the bases the entire time and didn’t even feel pressure when he rounded third.

That’s called speed.

It’s also called a stand-up, inside-the-park home run that put Arizona ahead of Atlanta, 5-1, in the bottom of the third inning of Arizona’s 10-3 win.
