Arizona Sports’ Mike Jurecki reports it will be a one-year deal and Williams will be with the team within 24 hours.
Williams, 34, spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after eight years in Green Bay. In 2016, Williams started seven games for the Browns and had 36 tackles, five passes defensed and one interception. The former Pro Bowler has 30 career interceptions. He will wear No. 37.
The Cardinals were dealt a blow Saturday when cornerback Ronald Zamort, who was playing first-team reps in practice, was carted off the field. He reportedly tore his ACL.
The Cardinals reportedly had brought in Williams for a visit and met with former Charger cornerback Brandon Flowers as well.
A glaring weakness for Arizona, as it has been for quite some time, is the cornerback opposite of Patrick Peterson. With the reported injury to Zamort, Justin Bethel and Brandon Williams are competing for the spot, and even the depth behind the two is concerning. Eli Bouka, Harlan Miller, Sojourn Shelton and Rudy Ford are other defensive backs in the mix.
