The Arizona Diamondbacks placed starting pitcher Robbie Ray on the seven-day concussion disabled list Saturday after he was struck in the head by a line drive Friday.

In a corresponding move, relief pitcher Silvino Bracho was recalled from Triple-A Reno

A line drive hit by St. Lous Cardinal Luke Voit hit Ray on the head in the bottom of the second inning. After being on the ground for several minutes, Ray was taken away on a cart.

“Thank goodness everything came out OK,” said Lovullo, who was teary-eyed discussing Ray after the Diamondbacks dropped a 1-0 decision to the Cardinals. “He went and had a CT scan and everything checked out in a very good way. He had three sutures put in to close up the wound.

Ray, 25, made the All-Star team this season. He is 9-5 with a 3.11 ERA.

Bracho has made nine appearances this year for the D-backs, allowing six earned runs in 9.1 innings.
