Vince Wilfork retires: ‘No more cleats. I’m moving on to smoked meats!’

Aug 7, 2017, 11:10 AM

This is a blatant advertisement. It’s also genius.

Announcing his retirement after 13 NFL seasons, former New England Patriots and Houston Texans defensive tackle Vince Wilfork took the uncommon route. He didn’t do it with a press conference, or a tweet with a note thanking his friends, co-workers and family.

The man did it while getting paid.

In a tweet with a video, the very large man Wilfork posted: “Well y’all – it’s been a great run, but the time has come. @Kingsford #Sponsored.”

It’s a commercial about grilling. And it’s glorious. After Wilfork takes off and hangs up his cleats to some dramatic music, the tone suddenly shifts.

“Ayyyye! No more cleats. I’m moving on to smoked meats! Peace out, I’m out of here, later!” he says.

This seems like a dude completely happy with retirement, smoking cigars, wearing revealing overalls and eating ribs while wearing a hat that says “RIBS.”

If Vince Wilfork isn’t winning at life, who is?
