The Bears and Browns are still very bad with their new QBs

And we haven’t even gotten to the first Jets preseason game!

The Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns both made quarterback acquisitions this offseason in order to make themselves less bad at football, but we learned Thursday that bringing in players with a clean slate does not mean these teams will be any good. Nor does it mean the quarterbacks they brought in are any good.

First, there was Mike Glennon, who had a fine enough resume and signed a three-year deal with Chicago before the team drafted Mitch Trubisky second overall — to everyone’s surprise.

Glennon’s debut went very badly.

Let’s start with this: The quarterback’s second pass, a pick-six, was between two of his own receivers and closer to two Denver defenders.

It didn’t get better from there, and by the end of his night, Glennon went 2-of-8 for 20 yards and a pick for a passer rating of 0.00.

Making matters worse, Trubisky completed his first pass, a 1-yard pass, and had a rating of 79 at that point before completing the next three passes for 24 yards, capping a drive with a touchdown toss. The rookie completed his first 10 passes.

Over in Cleveland, things were nearly as bad for former ASU QB Brock Osweiler, who was acquiring from the Houston Texans after he inked a $72 million deal a year ago and struggled in his first year under the deal.

Osweiler went 6-of-14 for 42 yards without a touchdown pass or a pick on Thursday against the Saints.

His first play didn’t sit well with fans.

Yes, it’s the preseason. But these developments are certainly not going to make suffering Bears and Browns fans feel confident.
