Ceremonial first pitch at Fenway goes horribly awry

Aug 17, 2017, 7:42 AM

Jordan Leandre’s story is a good one.

As a child, he survived a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma. He’s been a regular at Fenway Park over the years due to his involvement from the Jimmy Fund Clinic and has thrown out many first pitches and even sung the National Anthem. In fact, Leandre is the little boy singing the anthem in the Opening Day scene in the 2005 movie Fever Pitch.

Now, Leandre is a junior in high school, and a baseball player. He threw out the first pitch Wednesday night before the Red Sox-Cardinals game, but this one didn’t go as planned. Leandre fired it high and outside — an errant pitch that hit a photographer in a very delicate area.

The photographer, Tony Capobianco, a graduate of the University of Arizona, tweeted out the following:

We’ll pass on captioning that photo, Tony, but hey, nice job getting the shot!

All is well now as the pitcher and the photographer met after the game.
