Astros gift Athletics two runs with ‘Little League home run’

Aug 20, 2017, 12:18 PM

Pause the above video once the hitter makes contact and try and figure out how the Oakland Athletics get two runs.

If you answered a “Little League home run,” you are right!

Defined by a play in which two or more errors occur and the batter scores, the “Little League home run” always delivers a memorable video, and this one is no different.

In this instance, Oakland’s Marcus Semien hits a grounder to Houston shortstop Alex Bregman, who goes for the force-out at second. Instead, the throw goes into right field, and because of the odd angle at which the ball goes, Boog Powell scores for the Athletics.

The Astros’ right fielder Josh Reddick’s throw to home is cut off by first baseman Marwin Gonzalez. Gonzalez then tries to get Semien out at third to redeem the play, but not only is Semien most likely safe on a good throw, the throw is off and gets by third baseman J.D. Davis, allowing Semien to score.

It’s only right for the play to go down while the Little League World Series is underway.
