Former Sun Devil and current Houston Texans’ wide receiver Jaelen Strong has been suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s substances of abuse policy.

The 23-year-old Strong will miss Houston’s home and regular season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars but can participate in preseason practices and games. He can go back on the active roster Sept. 11.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Strong was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz. for suspected possession of marijuana. The legal case was resolved when he entered a drug diversion program.

Strong released a statement following the announcement:

The third-year pro played two seasons (2013-2014) at ASU and compiled 157 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. The Philadelphia native averaged 14.6 yards per reception in 26 games at Arizona State.

Strong was drafted by the Texans in the third round (No. 70 overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his first two NFL seasons, he compiled 292 receiving yards (10.4 yards per reception) and scored three touchdowns. Of his 18 pro games, Strong started three of them.
