Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez was named the National League Player of the Week for his performances spanning last Monday to Sunday.

Martinez started the week with a four-homer performance Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, becoming one of 18 players in MLB history to hit four home runs in a single game.

By the end of the week, the slugger had hit .429 with eight runs, 12 hits, seven home runs and 11 RBI over six games last week. He paced the National League in homers, RBI, total bases (34), extra base hits (eight) and slugging percentage (1.214).

It’s the second time an Arizona player was named Player of the Week in 2017. Jake Lamb won the award for the week ending on May 21.

For the season, Martinez is batting .289 with 37 home runs and 84 RBI. Twenty-one of those home runs and 45 of those RBI came in Arizona after the Detroit Tigers traded him 57 games into his season.

The weekly honor is Martinez’s fifth of his career.
