The Arizona Cardinals are adding running back depth by signing Arizona State and local high school product D.J. Foster, as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Foster, in his second season, will be signed off the New England Patriots’ practice squad. He joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent, picking New England over the Texans and Cardinals, reports MassLive.com’s Kevin Duffy.

Foster carried the ball seven times for 24 yards in limited action last year. He appeared in three games and also caught a two-yard pass.

Foster, who attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., set a state record with 60 touchdowns in a single season. He also holds state rushing records in yards for a game, touchdowns in a game, career touchdowns, career points and points scored in a season.

At ASU, Foster was used at running back and receiver. He accumulated at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage in his first three seasons at ASU before totaling 864 his senior year.

Foster’s best season as a Sun Devil came in 2014, when as a junior he scored 12 total touchdowns, rushed for 1,081 yards and added 688 yards receiving, all highs for his four-year college career.
