Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder J.D. Martinez was named the back-to-back National League Player of the Week for the stretch spanning last Monday through Sunday.

Over the last seven days, he’s hit .435, scored eight runs and done so thanks to three home runs and three doubles. He has six RBI over the six games played.

It’s the first time since MLB began handing out the award in 1973 that a player has won four times in a single season. Joining Carlos Beltrán (Kansas City and Houston), Martinez becomes the second player to win the award in both the American League and National League over the course of a season.

Martinez finished the week first in slugging percentage (.957) and total bases (22). He tied for first in hits (10) and extra-base hits (six).

The weekly honor is Martinez’s sixth of his career.

It’s the third time an Arizona player was named Player of the Week in 2017. Jake Lamb won the award for the week ending on May 21 before Martinez won the weekly honor last week.

In his first NL Player of the Week honor as a D-back, the slugger hit .429 with eight runs, 12 hits, seven home runs and 11 RBI over six games from Sept. 4-10. He paced the National League in homers, RBI, total bases (34), extra base hits (eight) and slugging percentage (1.214).
