The Arizona Cardinals got their first win of the 2017 season Sunday in Indianapolis, and they also their first individual weekly award as a result as well.
Wednesday, wide receiver J.J. Nelson was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Arizona’s 16-13 overtime win over the Colts.
Nelson had five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in the game. His touchdown catch, a 45-yarder thrown by Carson Palmer, came during the Cardinals’ fourth-quarter comeback and pulled them to within three points with 7:38 remaining in the game. Dating back to 2016, Nelson has seven touchdowns in his last seven games (six receiving, one rushing).
Nelson’s performance also came in a big spot because the Cardinals were playing without veteran receiver John Brown, who sat out with a quad injury.
He becomes just the third Cardinals wide receiver to win the honor, joining Roy Green and Larry Fitzgerald.
