Arizona Coyotes owner Andrew Barroway said Saturday in a town hall the team plans to retire the number of former captain Shane Doan.

Doan, who was the longest-tenured captain in the NHL (13 seasons) when he finished the 2016-17 season with Arizona last year, wore number 19. He played 21 seasons in the NHL, all with the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes/Arizona Coyotes franchise. He’s the Coyotes’ all-time franchise leader in goals (402), games (1,540), points (972) and other statistics.

Dylan Strome, one of the Coyotes’ top prospects, has worn No. 19 during his time with the OHL’s Erie Otters. He has worn No. 20 during this year’s training camp and in previous stints with the Coyotes’s NHL roster.

In a recent interview with Bickley & Marotta on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, Doan discussed his relationship with the Coyotes, among other topics.

JAKOB CHYCHRUN’S RETURN

Coyotes sophomore defenseman Jakob Chychrun suffered an undisclosed knee injury this offseason that required surgery. General manager John Chayka said Saturday that the 19-year-old is weeks away from skating.

In his first NHL season last year, the former first-round pick played 68 games, scored seven goals with 13 assists  and averaged 16:40 of ice time per game.
