The Arizona Diamondbacks are going to the playoffs.

With the Cardinals’ and Brewers’ losses on Sunday, it is now mathematically guaranteed that Arizona will play in the Wild Card game on Oct. 4. The D-backs’ walk-off win over the Marlins later that afternoon guarantees the team will have home field advantage in the Wild Card game.

The postseason appearance will be the Diamondbacks’ first since 2011, when the team finished 94-68 to win the NL West. They were eliminated by the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS. That D-backs team featured manager Kirk Gibson, ace Ian Kennedy, sluggers Justin Upton, Miguel Montero and Ryan Roberts, and a rookie named Paul Goldschmidt.

This will be the sixth postseason appearance in the D-backs’ 20-year history.

A D-backs win in the Wild Card game will send them to the NLDS, where they will face the top team in the National League. As of Sunday, that title belonged to the Dodgers, who have already clinched the NL West.
