In the Arizona Coyotes’ 5-4 shootout loss to the San Jose Sharks in the preseason on Saturday at Gila River Arena, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson left the game with an injury.

The incident occurred as the teams battled in overtime and Ekman-Larsson got tied up with former teammate Mikkel Boedker. Ekman-Larsson was reportedly helped off the ice by a trainer and fellow defenseman Alex Goligoski.

Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet was asked about Ekman-Larsson’s status after the game.

“He will get re-evaluated tomorrow — lower body,” Tocchet said via a transcript from the team. “See what happens tomorrow. I don’t think he will practice tomorrow.”

Ekman-Larsson, 26, was the Coyotes’ first-round pick in 2009 and has played with the NHL team since 2010-11. Last season, the Karlskrona, Sweden native scored 12 goals with 27 assists after netting more than 20 goals in each of the previous two seasons.
