For the Arizona Diamondbacks, this weekend is about keeping the players engaged and tuned up, but after they locked up an NL Wild Card spot a week before the end of the year, it’s been a waiting game to see which opponent will visit Chase Field on Wednesday.

The wait is nearly over.

The Colorado Rockies and Milwaukee Brewers remain alive in the Wild Card race. The St. Louis Cardinals were eliminated from contention after an 11-inning loss to the Cubs Friday night.

Colorado’s magic number to clinch a postseason berth sits at two heading into Friday, heading into the season’s final weekend. A combination of two Colorado wins and Milwaukee losses will secure the Rockies as the D-backs’ Wild Card opponent.

Colorado hosts the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Brewers and Cardinals square off for three games in St. Louis to close the season.

The Brewers could go 2-1 and see the Rockies get swept to earn a play-in game on Monday. A Milwaukee sweep of St. Louis would force Colorado to win at least one game to force a play-in.
