Suns rookie Josh Jackson on the cover of SLAM Magazine

The Phoenix Suns enter the 2017-18 season with a plethora of young talent ready to take the next step this season. One member of the core, rookie small forward Josh Jackson, appeared on the cover of SLAM Magazine’s 2017-18 NBA Preview.

The Suns selected Jackson with the fourth pick in last June’s NBA Draft. The 20-year-old Kansas product was drafted just behind top pick Markelle Fultz (Philadelphia 76ers), No. 2 pick Lonzo Ball (Los Angeles Lakers) and No. 3 pick Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics). Those four players were joined by fifth overall pick De’Aaron Fox out of Kentucky.

In one season as a Jayhawk, Jackson averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 points, 3.0 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 51 percent  and 38 percent from three point range.

Here is what SLAM Magazine associate editor Max Resetar wrote about Jackson in the cover story.

Former Kansas Jayhawk Josh Jackson’s potential rests in his versatility. At 6-8 with long arms and a mix of agility and power, Jackson has the potential to be one of the best two-way players in the NBA. He’s a locomotive when he’s going to the rim and he’s already a dangerous shot-blocker. He can reject shots from anywhere, trailing in transition or coming from the weak side.

Jackson was also featured in a rapid fire Q&A video with other members of the 2017-18 rookie class. Among other questions, Jackson was asked what he would buy with his first paycheck.

“Probably looking for a dog, for one,” Jackson said.
