Perhaps it was too optimistic to believe Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington would be able to play in Week 7 after missing practice Thursday and Friday with a quadriceps injury. And in fact, he will not.
Ellington is inactive and thus will be on the sidelines when the Cardinals play the Los Angeles Rams at Twickenham Stadium in London on Sunday.
Ellington’s absence likely means more touches for Kerwynn Williams, especially on third down, and maybe Elijhaa Penny.
The remaining inactives are running back D.J. Foster, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, offensive lineman Daniel Munyer, defensive lineman Olsen Pierre, tight end Ricky Seals-Jones and wide receiver Chad Williams.
Pierre missed last week was limited in practice this week because of an ankle injury.
There is good news along the Cardinals defensive line and that is Robert Nkemdiche. For the first time since Week 3 and only the third time all season, the former first-round draft pick will be in uniform. Nkemdiche has been dealing with a calf injury.
Also, Xavier Williams is good to go. He had been slowed by a knee issue.
For the Rams, safety Cody Davis (thigh) is out due to injury and among the listed inactives.
The others not in uniform for Los Angeles include quarterback Brandon Allen, running back Justin Davis, linebacker Ejuan Price, wide receiver Mike Thomas plus offensive linemen Andrew Donnal and Cornelius Lucas.
