Mack Brown: ‘I would love to talk’ to Ray Anderson about ASU job

Former Texas head coach Mack Brown told Burns & Gambo on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station that he would be open to talking to Arizona State Vice President of University Athletics Ray Anderson about the open head coaching job if he were to call.
“Only if they would call me,” Brown said. “If Ray doesn’t find what he wants and he would like to talk I would love to talk to him about it.”
Brown was the head coach of Texas from 1998-2013, winning a national championship in 2005 and two conference championships in 2005 and 2009.
In his head coaching career at Appalachian State, Tulane, North Carolina and Texas, Brown had a record of 244-122.
“I think what you have to look at is I’ve got one more good run in me and it would be fun to do it,” Brown said.
He is currently a college football commentator for ESPN.
“I would like for someone to get excited and call and say ‘we’d be your guy,'” he said. “I would never want to take a job unless someone really wanted you there.”
Brown revealed he has had chances to coach other programs since he left Texas in 2013, but “none of them have excited” him.
Arizona State made headlines Tuesday when it was reported by 98.7 FM’s Paul Calvisi that Herm Edwards was a name Anderson was looking at as the next head coach after Todd Graham was fired Sunday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported Edwards will have an interview this weekend.
Edwards joins a shortlist of potential Sun Devil coaching hires that include fired Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason and Michigan passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton.
