On Monday, UFC officials announced UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman had been forced to pull out of his upcoming title fight against Lyoto Machida originally scheduled UFC 173 on May 24.
Weidman (11-0) suffered a knee injury during training camp, which will require minor surgery. Instead of scrapping the fight altogether, the UFC has decided to move his title defense against Machida (21-4) to the main event of UFC 175, which takes place July 5 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.
A replacement main event for UFC 173 has yet to be announced.
