Phoenix FC up for challenging road trip to Harrisburg, Rochester

Jun 27, 2013, 3:43 PM | Updated: 3:44 pm

While playing on the road has proven to be a tough task for Phoenix FC this season, the club’s past two home games have shown that the Wolves are an offensively hungry team. This week , Phoenix FC will look to pick up some much needed points away from home with matches at Harrisburg City Islanders on Friday, June 28, and Rochester Rhinos on Saturday, June 29. The Harrisburg match is set for 4:00 p.m. Arizona time, and the Rochester match kicks off at 4:05 p.m.

The Wolves are 2-9-5 heading into the Harrisburg match, having played to a scoreless draw in their two previous home matches against the Real Salt Lake City Reserves and Dayton Dutch Lions, earning just two points in two games. Despite the scoreless outcomes, Phoenix FC dominated much of each game on the offensive end with aggressive play and increased shot production.

This weekend’s road-trip will test Phoenix FC’s mettle, as not only will it face USL PRO’s current second-place team when it visits Harrisburg, it will do so with a short-handed roster. Starting goalkeeper and team captain Andrew Weber will not travel with the team this week as he works to get healthy for the final stretch of the season. Weber has started all but two matches this season and it is starting to take a physical toll. He is not at one hundred percent and will benefit from a much-needed rest. Sheldon Parkinson, who has made appearances in three matches this season including a stellar performance against the Real Salt Lake reserve team in Sandy, Utah, will get the nod at goal.

Standout midfielder Diego Faria also will not travel as he recuperates from shin splints that have been plaguing him for the past three weeks. Additionally, Phoenix FC’s “iron man”, midfielder Scott Morrison, will have to sit out the game in Harrisburg due to having to serve a one-game suspension after earning his fifth yellow card of the season last week against Dayton. Morrison, who leads the team and the league in minutes played, will be back in the lineup Saturday night against Rochester.

Phoenix FC also announces today that starting defender Renan Felipe Boufleur will play the remainder of the USL PRO season with Orlando City as part of a transfer deal. Boufleur has played in 15 games for the Wolves this season, logging 2 shots and 19 fouls.

The Harrisburg City Islanders boast two of the league’s top 15 scorers in Sainey Touray, who has 8 goals and 4 assists, and Christhian Hernandez who has 3 goals and 3 assists. Harrisburg has twelve players who have scored this season, 7 of whom have scored multiple times.

The Rochester Rhinos currently sit at two spots above Phoenix FC in USL PRO league standings, with the teams separated by just three points. A Phoenix FC win would move the Wolves into a tie with the Rhinos, who are led by forwards Blake Brettschneider and Thomas McManus.

Both matches will be streamed on live at http://www.uslnation.com/USLPro/.
At the conclusion of the road trip, Phoenix FC returns home for its next three matches, the first of which is on July 6 against the Antigua Barracudas. Antigua will play Phoenix FC again just five days later on July 11, and the Richmond Kickers will close out Phoenix FC’s home stand on July 19.
