Arizona guard Rawle Alkins plans to return vs. Alabama

Dec 7, 2017, 12:57 PM | Updated: 2:08 pm

Arizona Wildcats guard Rawle Alkins is expected to return Saturday against the Alabama Crimson Tide after sitting out more than 10 weeks to recover from surgery on a broken right foot, Sean Miller said at his press conference Monday.

“As long as Rawle can string two good days of practices together,” the team expects him to debut, Miller said,

“The No. 1 thing with us dealing with him is making sure we didn’t rush him back,” the head coach added. “We’ve really progressed him very slowly. Not only did he not put on weight … he’s actually in better shape than he was almost prior to getting hurt. His body fat’s down, his weight’s down.”

Alkins averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a freshman in 2016-17 while shooting 46 percent overall and 37 percent from three-point range. The 6-foot-5 guard tested the NBA Draft waters by attending the draft combine before deciding to return for his sophomore season.

The Wildcats have gone 6-3 without Alkins to start the year.

Arizona faces Alabama and NBA point guard prospect Collin Sexton at 8 p.m. Saturday.
