Cardinals’ Larry Fitzgerald, others to wear special patch for rest of career

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is among a handful of active NFL players who have won the league’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which recognizes excellence both on and off the field.

And now, Fitzgerald will wear that award as a badge of honor — literally — as players who have won the prestigious award will have a patch on their jerseys for the remainder of their careers.

The other active winners are Eli Manning (’16), Thomas Davis (’12), Jason Witten (’12) and Drew Brees (’06). Manning and Fitzgerald were co-winners last season.

As Cardinals senior vice president of media relations Mark Dalton points out, this year’s nominees from each of the 32 NFL teams will also get a special Walter Payton sticker for their helmets. This year’s Cardinals nominee, Patrick Peterson, has the sticker shown below:
