D-backs claim pitcher Henry Owens off waivers

The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed pitcher Henry Owens off of waivers from the Boston Red Sox, the team announced Thursday.
Owens was selected 36th overall by the Red Sox in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
The 25-year-old has spent a majority of his career in the minor leagues, making 145 starts with a 3.49 ERA and 828 strikeouts. In 2014 he was a Baseball America Minor League All-Star and received the Eastern League Pitcher of the Year honors with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket.
During the 2015-2016 season, Owens made 16 starts in the Major League for the Red Sox, recording a 5.19 ERA in 85 innings pitched and an overall record of 4-6.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder spent the 2017 season with Portland and Pawtucket, making 26 starts with a 4.21 ERA and 7-11 record. Most recently, Owens pitched in the Arizona Fall League for the Peoria Javelinas.
The Diamondbacks’ roster is now at 39.
