Two Arizona Wildcats linebackers, Colin Schooler and Tony Fields II were named to ESPN’s 2017 Freshman All-America team.

Schooler was already named Pac-12 freshman defensive player of the year after a stellar season posting 88 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions.

Schooler came on strong at the end of the season registering 31 tackles including 11 tackles for loss and three sacks in the last three games of the year. He led all freshman in the nation with 13.5 tackles for loss.

His partner in crime, Fields II led the team with 91 total tackles. Fields II logged 10 solo tackles and his lone interception of the year in a 58-37 win over Washington State on October 28th.

Both players are true freshman. Schooler graduated from Mission Viejo High School in California while Fields II went to Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas.

Offensively the Wildcats were led by J.J. Taylor, a freshman running back. Taylor was not named to the ESPN list but was named co-freshman offensive player of the year in the Pac-12.

With the emergence of Khalil Tate at quarterback, who is just a sophomore, the future looks bright for the young Wildcats.

Arizona challenges Purdue in the Foster Farms Bowl Wednesday, Dec. 27th at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.
