Joel Hanley’s stint with the Tucson Roadrunners lasted all of eight days as he was recalled Wednesday to add depth to a depleted Coyotes blue line.
Hanley had a brief four-game stint with the Coyotes earlier this season. Despite not scoring a point in those four games, the 26-year-old defenseman logged a plus-1 in the plus/minus category and averaged over 10 minutes on ice per game.
With veteran free agent acquisition Niklas Hjalmarsson expected to miss another two weeks, and the demotion of 20-year-old rookie Kyle Capobianco, Hanley is the next man up to fill the sixth spot on coach Rick Tocchet’s defense.
The Coyotes return home Thursday to face the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
