Doug: The greatest football season ever

Aug 18, 2009, 10:45 PM | Updated: Jul 26, 2024, 2:03 pm

I realize everyone’s sick of Brett Favre. Tuesday, however, solidified something for me. 2009 will be the greatest football season in the history of the sport. The story lines are better than most of the novels ever written.

Just try to make your playoff predictions. The AFC had an 11-5 team miss the playoffs while the NFC had a 9-7 team represent them in the Super Bowl.

If we spin around the divisions we can’t even contain it.

AFC EAST

Brady’s back

Favre’s out; Sanchez in

Parcells=playoffs

T.O.

AFC NORTH

Palmer and Ocho Cinco

The only rookie QB to ever win a road playoff game

Remember Quinn? Remember Man-genius?

Oh, and the SB Champions

AFC SOUTH

Peyton without Harrison

Del Rio’s last year?

Houston’s break out year

Oh, and last year’s number one seed

AFC WEST

The Josh McDaniels implosion

The Todd Haley Project

Does Rivers finally match Eli and Big Ben?

Al Davis punches the Cable guy

NFC EAST

Romo without Jessica

NY without guns in sweat pants

Zorn’s last year with the maroon and black

Vick!

NFC SOUTH

Delhomme’s revenge

Ryan, Roddy, Tony & Turner

Missing Chuckie

Remember when NO was marching a few years ago?

NFC WEST

The return of the Seahawks

& The battle of death defying training camps

The defending conference champions with a HOF QB and the Best player the league has to offer

NFC NORTH

McCarthy, Thompson & Rodgers vs their future in the NFL

Favre v GB, Favre v Thompson, Favre v McCarthy, Favre v Rogers, Favre v Lombardi

Daunte v Minn, Stafford v league, Lions v 0-32

Cutler v Himself

The next thing you know college football will have two Heisman trophy winners playing in the same season. Oh wait…sorry Colt McCoy, Terrelle Pryor, Javid Best, Zac Robinson and Archie Griffin, but that’s exactly what we have.

Labor Day weekend starts the Greatest Season in the history of football. It doesn’t end until Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.
