Doug’s NFL Power Poll: Week 9
Nov 3, 2009, 7:30 PM | Updated: Jul 26, 2024, 2:01 pm
Doug’s top of the poll stays the same after wins by the Saints and Colts. Doug was also impressed by a certain #4’s performance in Green Bay and has a unique way of looking at what the future could hold for the Cardinals if they stay inconsistent.
1. SAINTS: Converting 46% of 3rd downs compared to opponents converting 30%…nice 3 game break vCAR, @STL & @TB
2. COLTS: You can’t take away 7-0 but the competition reads like a who’s who of average-to-bad teams…number one in scoring defense is scary (13pts/game)
3. VIKINGS: Allowing 4.1y/c is way too high…having 13 more sacks than you allow is impressive though
4. PATRIOTS: Brady is completing 66% of his throws for 15 TD’s and 4 INT’s—and he’s still not 100% yet…I know this isn’t relevant but Belichick is 15-4 in the post-season, amazing
5. BRONCOS: Remember the schedule jokes–@CIN, vDAL, vNE, @SD & @BAL keeps looking tougher every week…39% for and 33% against is too close a gap in 3rd down conversions
6. BENGALS: Horrible against the pass but they get S Williams back…could win the division in the next two weeks—vBAL & @PIT
7. STEELERS: Win @DEN would be huge but you’ll still need BAL to win @CIN to make the top 5
8. FALCONS: Have scored 22 TD’s but only 22 points ahead of what they allow on the season…allowing 47% of 3rd downs to be converted is embarrassing
9. RAVENS: The record says 4-3 but their worst loss is 6 pts @NE…they’re 4th in pts scored and 4th against the rush—don’t let the record fool you
10. COWBOYS: 2nd in offense but 22nd on defense—if Wade was doing his job on defense they’d be pretty good…interesting road trip @PHI and @GB
11. EAGLES: You’d be number 5 if you could beat OAK
12. TEXANS: I predicted they’d be a #6 seed and, checking the standings, hey, wha’ da ya know…of course I wish they didn’t have to play IND twice in three weeks
13. CARDINALS: It’s only one game we lost to 3-4 SF—it’s only one game we gave up 500 y of offense—it’s only one game we lost to 3-4 CAR…it’s only by one game that we missed the playoffs
14. GIANTS: How is your defense 3rd in yards against but 22nd in points allowed?…Oh, I see, your wonderboy QB has thrown only one less pick than JaMarcus Russell
15. BEARS: Would be a #9 seed in the playoffs — sorry there’s only 6…Cutler’s rating, 80.8; Orton’s rating 95.5
16. PACKERS: There are only three new starters from ’07 offense under Favre and ’09 offense under Rodgers because the three ‘07 starters are now on the bench…recant Ted Thompson!
17. CHARGERS: Give up 23 and score 26 isn’t much of a margin of error…@NYG, vPHI, @DEN could get ugly
18. JETS: What I still haven’t figured out is where did he get the hot dog?
19. DOLPHINS: 50% on 3rd downs is amazing—too bad your -2 in TO’s…@NE when they come off a bye can’t be a good feeling
20. PANTHERS: @NO so we can see what elite teams do to bad teams…something tells me they won’t be #1 versus the pass after they meet Drew Breeeees
21. 49ERS: I don’t think that 41% 3rd down conversion against average is good…vTEN could mean a tie atop the NFC West
22. BILLS: Opponents are averaging 5.1y/c…the NFL is very weak if this is the 22nd best team
23. SEAHAWKS: If Edge was so mis-used last year and Drew Rosenhaus said how many people wanted to sign him, why did SEA release him?
24. JAGUARS: Every 12 times JAX tries to throw, they get sacked…vKC on Sun—good seats still available
25. RAIDERS: If you’re below this line, you should beg for Arena Football to return so you can get some players…won’t win 7 games in one season until Al Davis is dead
26. CHIEFS: click here and go to the bottom left of the page—anyone else find it interesting that the NFL can’t find stats on Todd Haley’s 1-6 coaching career?
27. REDSKINS: Isn’t it amazing that the defense is 5th in the NFL and 2nd against the pass despite being -8 in TO’s?
28. TITANS: Hip hip hooray…since Chris Johnson is averaging 6.9y/c give it to him more than 17 times per game, please
29. BROWNS: Hey! You haven’t missed a FG all year, that’s something!…imagine living on I-71 in Northeast OH—do you want to see CLE or Big 10 football?
30. RAMS: they waived WR Tim Carter—I don’t know who he is either but when the team averages less than 10 pts per game, how does it feel to be told “you’re not good enough for our offense?”
31. LIONS: You lost to STL…you lost to STL
32. BUCS: I said they’d go 0-16 and I’m feeling pretty good…they’re 2 for 7 on FGA, even the kicker sucks |
