SEC = Bigger, faster, better

Fascinating blog by ESPN’s Ted Miller. I hope you don’t mind that my blog is simply, “what he said.”
I read the blog and openly laughed at the ignorant comments of Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops trying to attack the SEC. I lived for 26 years in the heart of Big Ten country, lived in the SEC for five, the Big 12 for three and the Pac-12 for seven. Nothing is the SEC. It’s not close and it never will be.
Every other conference makes excuses for their own shortcomings or takes shots at the SEC to try to justify the SEC’s dominance is under a false pretense. Check Ted’s blog on the combine stats. SEC defensive lines and offensive lines are taller, heavier and faster than every other conference. Comments like Stoops’ are so disingenuous for this very fact. So many offenses in the Pac-12 and Big 12 would get their quarterbacks killed if they tried the same thing every week.
The fans, players and coaches are better than every other conference. More Southern parents bring their kids to high school football games. It’s a dream come true for a kid to go to an SEC stadium because every game is sold out. With the love of the game in their soul, more kids play high school football. Since the game is serious, high school coaches are paid more due to the high attendance. Better coaches make better players. Better players play in college. SEC fans watch or attend every game. That gives the schools more money. More money pays for better coaches and better facilities. Better facilities and coaches bring better players.
As long as fans and coaches want to make excuses for their in ability to compete at that level, they’ll keep falling behind.
