Seattle will press their advantage

Thoughts are formulating, suspicions mounting and the cognitive worm begins to turn on the hook of Super Bowl 48. The grey matter is starting to produce smoky synapse whose genesis illuminated the well of my soul.

Although I am a huge fan of Peyton Manning and respect him greatly, the onus is on Manning and the Broncos to seize the initiative and take the fight to the Seattle Seahawks. If you perceive this to be a prediction, you are wrong. If you believe this indicates who I think the favorite is in New York, you are right.

“The Yoke of Prove It” is always placed on the strongest. And although Peyton Manning doesn’t need to prove anything to me about his ability to play quarterback — regular season or postseason — the matchups are not matching up.

I have questions and, try as I may, their reality hang in the air like some of Manning’s throws. To wit: how will Denver’s receivers get off press-man-cover?

Denver has an excellent cadre of receivers. The Broncos have Peyton Manning. Denver boasts the No. 1 pass offense in the NFL. Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Eric Decker, Wes Welker and co. have been lights out all season long.

But, what the Broncos passing attack is about to experience is almost as morose as listening to a looped version of Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares To You,” a song Manning would recognize from high school. And the cold, possible wind and precipitation (and the Seahawks withering pass rush) will not diminish Manning’s propensity to float a ball out of the pocket every now and then.

Seattle has the best back end in the league. The Seahawks have the best shutdown corner in the game in Richard Sherman. Seattle has the No. 1 pass defense in the National Football League. Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond III, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, the Legion of Boom, think Sinead O’Connor is a beer to be consumed, poured down their gaping maw like another Seattle interception.

The best pass offense verse the best pass defense: something’s got to give. I don’t think it will be the physical, press-man coverage of the Seattle Seahawks. Because…

Nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

Nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

Nothing compares

Nothing compares to you

After further deliberation, maybe the Broncos should loop this song in the locker room during pregame? The overt agitation would serve them well in run-down.

But that’s a question for next week.

Tiger Woods is the Lord of the Headlines

Tiger Woods is still dominating headlines but the golf world has moved on. In terms of production, this is a man that hasn't been relevant in years but whatever he does cameras, microphones and interest follows him like TMZ on Travolta.

Adrian Peterson’s perdition

There's a ton of subterfuge swirling in and around the Adrian Peterson affair. Rumors and innuendo seem to be the currency used to build arguments as to where Minnesota's talented back is headed. So let me add to the speculation:

The curious case of Chris Borland

Good for Chris Borland. He made an immediate decision through a long-term lens and he seems to be at peace walking away from the game he loves and played so vigorously.

Markieff Morris: Do your job

"Do your job," Bill Belichick said, running his harry hands through his greasy hair. "Nobody is responsible for how you play but you…not your mother, not your aunt Edna…do…your…job."

The threat of Los Angeles is a powerful one for the NFL

The NFL has always been a progressive sports league but what they have done with the L.A. market may be their masterpiece.

LeBron

Recently, LeBron James tweeted something out that clearly referenced Kevin Love. He implored the social media populace to stop trying to "FIT-OUT" and start trying to "FIT-IN."
