Dear Amare: Go away

They say the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Sometimes the squeaky wheel gets left on the street to get picked up by the trash man.

That’s what I think when I hear Amare Stoudemire talk. And talk. And talk some more.

Just.

Go.

Away.

The chatty Suns forward apparently made the rounds on Friday, promoting eye protection awareness for a company called The Vision Council. He told a San Antonio station “If I’m not going to win a championship soon, I may have to part ways.” Later, on a Washington D.C. radio station, he rated his chances of being a Sun at 50%. He also told the folks in the nation’s capital that the Wizards might be a No. 1 jersey away from winning a title. He told an outlet in Chicago that whatever team he ends up with better be prepared to win a championship. And in the coup de grace, he told a radio station in New York that he’s “totally serious” about joining the Knicks in 2010 and that Mike D’Antoni is doing a “phenomenal job with the Knicks, NY’s a great city, I follow them closely.”

Has anyone else noticed that if Stoudemire was as good at rebounding and defense as he was at talking about how good he is……he might actually be that good?

He’s now come full circle in contradicting himself about D’Antoni. He once vowed to be a great defensive player for Terry Porter. When Amare speaks my instinct to roll my eyes is positively pavlovian.

It’s not quite the same as Charles Barkley going on national TV and gutting the Suns organization in a successful attempt to force them into a trade. Maybe it’s not even close.

But Stoudemire’s act is tired and thin. Let somebody else pay tens of millions of dollars for him. He scores a ton and he talks a ton more.

Beyond that he offers nothing that warrants that kind of investment.

A Corolla at running back might work for the Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals might be better off looking for a running back in the draft than to land the big name.
