Burns: Having to wait for the truth

It’s a bona fide cliffhanger. It’s like the season finale of “Lost” or “24”. All those unanswered questions and now I have to wait to find out the truth.
Did the Suns actually trade Amare? Maybe. Did the war room actually let out a whoop when the T’wolves left Stephen Curry on the board for Golden State? Mmmmm, possibly. Were the Warriors picking for the Suns there? Can’t say for sure. Will Amare want to go to Golden State? Don’t know. Is Darth Vader really Luke’s father?
Sorry, wrong cliffhanger.
The parts about the draft that we know for certain – the Suns selected Earl Clark out of Louisville – I like. He’s got upside. Needs to play harder. But if he realizes his potential he could be a difference maker. I felt the Suns were better off taking a risk at 14 and I think they did.
And I had to laugh, twice. The first time when the dreaded Spurs took the player that Doug & Wolf have been touting for weeks, DeJuan Blair. And then the second time when the Suns selected Blake Griffin’s brother, Taylor. That’s back to back years they’ve had to settle for the less coveted brother. Curry has a brother too, maybe they can get him next year.
That’s the stuff we know. The stuff we don’t is the juicy stuff. Amare and Curry. The suns are playing it straight. Steve Kerr says it’s absolutely false but there’s got to be something there. Too much static for it to be otherwise.
For the life of me though, I can’t imagine why Amare would want to be in Golden State. And Golden State isn’t going to trade for Amare unless they know for sure he will stay for a while. That’s the one piece that doesn’t fit and I bet it derails the whole thing.
But I hope it doesn’t. Even though I don’t think much of Curry as a pro I admire the Suns conviction in getting a guy that they love. And I applaud them (again, if the deal happens) for having the self-awareness in recognizing that this Etch-A-Sketch of a team was a mess. Shake it up, start over.
The good news is we’ll know the answers about the Suns very soon. A whole lot sooner than “Lost” or “24”.
