Sports Kabob – 11/11

Nov 12, 2009, 1:13 AM | Updated: Jan 14, 2011, 4:27 pm

Ladies and gentlemen (and especially ladies), welcome to the Sports Kabob, a skewered look at the world of sports and pop culture.

Here are the top stories:

Sammy Sosa, a native Dominican, was recently photographed with what appeared to be markedly whiter skin. Rumors swirled that he was undergoing the same sort of treatment that pop star Michael Jackson used to alter his pigment
While Sosa denies any similarity to Jackson, Major League Baseball has banned Sammy from any interaction with their bat boys, just in case

The St. Louis Cardinals are still figuring out how hitting coach Mark McGwire will eventually meet with the media and whether he will end his long silence on questions about his alleged connection to performance-enhancing drugs.
So far, the only thing McGwire has said about his role with the Cardinals is that he promises to give them a real “shot in the butt”

Jamie McCourt, mired in highly public divorce proceedings that also potentially involve the future of the Dodgers, told the Los Angeles Times she “absolutely” views herself as the team’s owner. McCourt, 55, was fired last month by Dodgers owner and her estranged husband, Frank, who claims she was having an affair and was doing a poor job in her role as chief executive
Frank said that he knew his wife’s philandering was interfering with her professional life after he caught her romantically sharing a Slim Fast with Tommy Lasorda

Kurt Busch drove to Victory Lane at Texas after his younger brother ran out of fuel with 2½ laps left Sunday, finishing 129 laps ahead of the rebuilt car driven by Jimmy Johnson
Experts say this was the most clutch performance for someone named Busch helping his brother since Jeb pulled out the election for George W in 2000

This week, the No. 24 Notre Dame Fighting Irish made their first appearance in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Women’s Top 25 Poll since the first week of the 2006 season, when they were ranked No. 23.
The Irish attribute their recent success to a new training regiment, in which they practice with a large high priced volleyball shaped object that the team has nicknamed “Charlie Weis”

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the children’s show Sesame Street
To commemorate this, the St. Louis Rams say that all of the rest of their games will be brought to you by the letter “L”

Va’Shaundya O’Neal filed for legal separation with intent to divorce her husband Shaquille O’Neal on Monday in Los Angeles.
Va’Shaundya’s reasons for filing for divorce from Shaq include “irreconcilable differences,” “communication problems,” and “wanting to be able to walk straight again”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. says Danica Patrick would be good for NASCAR, but there’s nothing new to report on the IndyCar star joining his team.
NASCAR fans are upset at the news of Patrick possibly joining, not because they don’t feel she should be with Earnhardt’s team, but because they feel that women shouldn’t be allowed to drive

Terrell Owens missed Wednesday’s practice because of a hip strain, and his status is unclear for Buffalo’s game at Tennessee on Sunday.
Insiders say that they saw TO’s injury coming as years of putting your foot in your mouth can be damaging to the hip

Manny Pacquiao will face Miguel Cotto this weekend in the year’s most anticipated fight
Experts favor Pacquiao and say that Cotto may get beat up so badly that people who see him after will think he’s one of Tom Cable’s ex-wives

That’s all for this week, leave comments and remember this is Jarrett Carlen asking why all these celebrities keep making sex tapes . Don’t they know that DVDs are way more popular these days?
