Ladies and gentlemen (and especially ladies), welcome to the Sports Kabob, a skewered look at the world of sports and pop culture.
Here are the top stories:
The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron after a poor 3-6 start
Then, to add insult to injury, Jauron was given the middle finger by Bud Adams on his way out the door
Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis says he can’t believe a decision has been made yet on whether he will be back with the Fighting Irish in 2010.
And, despite months of tasting, Weis says he also can’t believe it’s not butter
Bahraini middle-distance runner Rashid Ramzi was stripped of his 1,500-meter Olympic gold medal Wednesday because of doping at the Beijing Games.
Ramzi’s choice to do something stupid despite better judgment and the possibility of terrible consequences has earned him the nickname “Bill Belichick”
The prosthetic legs of double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius give the South African a 10-second advantage over a 400-meter race, according to a new study.
The advantage of a prosthetic appendage is also the reason John Wayne Bobbitt is not allowed to work in porn
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says his crying in front of his team earlier this week is just another example of him staying true to himself.
Jets players say they were not shocked that Ryan cried, but were somewhat surprised that his tears were made of gravy
Ryan went on to say that he is emotional and puts it all out there, and his not ashamed of his crying
While his players and fellow coaches are OK with this, Dick Vermeil is furious with Ryan for stealing his gimmick
Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins has launched an investigation into allegations football coach Mark Mangino has been treating his players inappropriately.
When reached for comment, Mangino said he was sorry for mistreating his players, and was only being hard on them because he was so angry at not being chosen as People’s Sexiest Man of the Year again
Kansas City’s third-year wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was suspended without pay for four games Tuesday for violating the NFL’s policy against performance-enhancing substances.
Also, the Chiefs will fine Bowe several thousand dollars for obviously not sharing the performance enhancers with the rest of the team
NASCAR driver Mark Martin won’t judge this season on whether or not he can catch teammate Jimmie Johnson for the Sprint Cup title. No matter where Martin finishes in the final standings, the 50-year-old veteran says 2009 has been the best year of his life.
Mostly because the Denny’s near his house added a new early bird menu
Bobby Frankel, who rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most successful and respected trainers in the history of thoroughbred horse racing, died early Monday from complications due to lymphoma. He was 68.
A life long horse racing fan, Frankel has requested that in lieu of a funeral, his body instead be ground up and made into dog food
