Sports Kabob – 2/10

Ladies and gentlemen (and especially ladies), welcome to the Sports Kabob, a skewered look at the world of sports and pop culture.

Here are the top stories:

The New Orleans Saints upset the Indianapolis Colts to win the Super Bowl
Proving once again that New Orleans must be the luckiest city in the world

One of the most popular Super Bowl ads featured Betty White and Abe Vigoda playing football
Far less popular was the Super Bowl Halftime show, which featured Betty White and Abe Vigoda playing rock music

The Who played a medley of their greatest hits during halftime
I’m not saying the band looked old, but their performance was supposed to end when Pete Townshend broke his guitar, but instead ended when Pete Townshend broke his hip

The Saints returned to New Orleans this week and held a huge victory parade through the city
There was partying, carousing, celebrating, drinking, and dancing all through the streets and bars. Or as residents of New Orleans called it, a Tuesday

Nevada casinos won almost $6.9 million on this year’s Super Bowl as bettors wagered $82.7 million on the NFL title game, gambling regulators said Tuesday.
“Boy”, said the millions of poor and unemployed, “it sure is great to see those casinos finally making some money”

Jesper Parnevik said Wednesday he will likely have to quit golf because of a broken vertebrae in his lower back.
I must say it’s refreshing to see a golfer quitting golf due to an injury that wasn’t caused by his angry wife swinging a golf club at him

The Washington D.C. area has been getting hit hard by a record snow storm, getting more than 3 feet of snow over the last week.
In fact, it’s been so cold in D.C. that instead of bringing fire arms into the locker room, Gilbert Arenas instead brought a fire place

The family of Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan insisted Tuesday that they do “not blame anyone” for her father’s death
However, they did ask that Tonya Harding be brought in for questioning just to be safe

Julius Peppers no longer wants a long-term contract with Carolina, saying the Panthers have ignored him this offseason. Peppers will now become a free agent and has already gotten interest from several teams
In fact, Jets coach Rex Ryan said he would sign Peppers immediately, as long as he also came with sausage

Model Brooklyn Decker landed the coveted Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover this year. The 22-year-old wife of tennis star Andy Roddick said being chosen for the cover, on newsstands Tuesday, is “the news of a lifetime.”
Decker was chosen because much like her husband, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is usually nice to look at, but is also overhyped and ultimately disappointing

That’s all for this week, leave comments and remember this is Jarrett Carlen saying that I can relate to Sarah Palin, I often write jokes on my hand before doing this column
