Ladies and gentlemen (and especially ladies), welcome to the Sports Kabob, a skewered look at the world of sports and pop culture.

Here are the top stories:

Viking players Ryan Longwell, Steve Hutchinson and Jared Allen flew on a private jet to Mississippi and successfully convinced Brett Favre to return to the NFL
Originally the players were going to drive a car to Mississippi, but could not find one big enough to hold Favre and his ego

The players spent the night with Favre and all returned to Minnesota on Tuesday
Favre said the flight went well, except for when a Packers fan flight attendant cursed out Favre, grabbed some beer and deployed the inflatable slide

Brett Favre officially announced his return to the Vikings today in a press conference on Wednesday to the delight of some, but the dismay of many
In fact, this may be the least anticipated comeback since Dolph Lundgren in “The Expendables”

Brigham Young is moving closer to leaving the Mountain West Conference, becoming a football independent and rejoining the Western Athletic Conference in all other sports by a Sept. 1 deadline to withdraw from the MWC for the 2011 season
Although, BYU may stay in the MWC as well, since in their case its ok to be with more than one conference at a time

Coach Rex Ryan, criticized by Tony Dungy for using profanity on camera, fired back Wednesday — sans expletives — claiming the coach-turned-analyst should watch his own mouth. “I’ve been a big admirer of Tony Dungy, and I’m sure a lot of people are, but he unfairly judged me, and that was disappointing to me,” said Ryan, who dropped at least 10 F-bombs in last week’s debut of HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”
Ryan did go on to say that he will compromise, and although he won’t stop cursing, he will muffle the sound of them by filling his mouth with delicious hoagies

It was movie day at Cardinals training camp today and players could choose any film they wanted to see at the theater
However, it was stated that if they chose “Eat, Pray, Love” they would no longer be allowed to shower with the rest of the players

The New Jersey Devils are working on another deal to sign Ilya Kovalchuk.
And while the Devils try to work out a new deal with Kovalchuk, Nick Saban is working out a new deal with the Devil

The attorney for the woman convicted of trying to extort University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino says prosecution witnesses may have lied during trial.
Apparently, it was more like 20 seconds

Cavs unveiled new uniforms on Wednesday to begin the post-Lebron era
The designer of the uniform said he felt no pressure when creating them, since he knew no fans would see them next year

The Arizona Diamondback bullpen continued their season long struggles this week, giving up multiple runs in two straight games.
In fact, the Diamondback bullpen is such a disaster that Muslims want to build a mosque next to it

That’s all for this week, leave comments and remember this is Jarrett Carlen saying that it’s nice to see someone on the Mets finally getting a big hit. Too bad it was K-Rod on his father-in-law.
