Raffi Torres blacks-out and other Halloween happenings

Thanks to the wonder that is Twitter, Coyotes fans were able to track all the crazy costumes at the team’s annual Halloween party. It wasn’t pretty, but it was downright scary. Apparently showing some skin does not apply solely to college-age girls. In case you missed some of the photos, here they are in all their (horrific?) glory.

It looks like Ray 'WIzard" Whitney can make magic outside the rink as well. I expected something along the lines of Albus Dumbledore, but he and his wife as toy soldiers looked pretty good. Rating: 4/5 stars. (Photo: BizNasty2point0) Yikes. If Mike Smith dressed like this during games, he'd post a shutout every time. Guys wouldn't want to skate near him and certainly would be blinded by those thighs. Rating: 3/5 stars. (Photo: BizNasty2point0) And there's your controversy. Newcomer Raffi Torres and his wife dressed as Jay-Z and Beyonce, blackface included. While people have been rather upset about the ordeal, I think the costumes are hysterical. A little borderline, yes, but that's what you get when you mix hockey players and Halloween. Rating: 5/5. (Photo: BizNasty2point0) Oh Biz, that's just nasty. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm not too sure I would be comfortable ordering a drink next to him at the bar, but I'll give it to him for effort for the Hacksaw Jim Duggan costume. His date helps. Rating: 4/5. (Photo: BizNasty2point0) Woof. That is the most terrifying nurse I have ever seen. I guess you have to pay your debts when you're an NHL rookie. Andy Miele sure did. If you see him/her/it in the hospital, save yourself the trouble and run. (Photo: Andy_Miele) On, Captainess Coyote. He may be "big bad Shane Doan", but he just looks bad here. Then again, you have to love the enthusiasm. What is it with hockey players and dressing like women? Well, to each his own. Rating 4/5, but two points are because he's the captain. Off the Ice: Taking a look back at the 2013-14 Phoenix Coyotes

I hate writing this piece. Not only because this means the Phoenix Coyotes’ season is done for the year, but writing it for the second time in a row in mid-April makes it all the more painful. Also, this is your chance to laugh at how wrong I was. After such a promising start, the […]

Coyotes close season with win in ‘hollow’ game

At 8:33 p.m. Sunday, the Phoenix Coyotes’ 2013-2014 season officially came to a close. The game, once possibly a playoff decider, was decribed as “hollow” by head coach Dave Tippett. His team may have emerged as the victor in a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars, but no matter the outcome, he and his squad […]

Coyotes’ woeful stretch run shows it’s time for change

There comes a time in life when all good things come to an end. An ice cold beer. “How I Met Your Mother.” A playoff run. The Phoenix Coyotes were officially eliminated from the playoffs Friday courtesy of a 3-0 win by the Dallas Stars over the St. Louis Blues. But let’s face it: The […]

Off the Ice: Confidence key if Coyotes are going to make playoffs

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Confidence is a funny thing. Too low of an amount and a man can look diminished, weak. Too much and the man grows too tall, easily tripping himself up. And just the right amount makes him look taller. It’ll even let him cover up a few mistakes. It’s pretty clear the Phoenix […]

Ice Bites: Grading Phoenix Coyotes trade for Martin Erat

The National Hockey League trade window has come to a close and, after all the dust settled, the Phoenix Coyotes were up a winger, a pick and a prospect and down three prospects and a veteran defenseman. After it was all said and done, every hockey pundit took to the Internet to grade the trades, […]

Off the Ice: Should the Phoenix Coyotes make a move for a left wing?

Let’s talk trades, shall we? As it stands, the Phoenix Coyotes are a bubble team this season at best. I’m not bashing the team, but being realistic. They’re not giving their defense the leads it needs, and they are finding ways to let points slip through their fingers. It’s simple. So, where’s the problem? As […]
