Fitzgerald finds himself in control again

Sep 13, 2012, 9:10 PM | Updated: 10:21 pm

Since signing an 8-year, $120 million dollar contract in August 2011, Larry Fitzgerald has had to endure quite a lot over the last year.

The Cardinals’ wideout has been forced to catch passes from the much-maligned quarterback duo of John Skelton and Kevin Kolb. He’s been shut out of the playoffs for two consecutive years. And to make matters worse his alma mater, Pittsburgh, is off to to its worse start since 2005.

But, the former No.3 overall pick is taking back control and will be doing the orchestrating from here on out. Well, sort of.

On Sept. 20, Fitzgerald will drop the pigskin and pads for the suit and the stick. As part of the Phoenix Symphony’s Opening Night, the esteemed wide receiver will serve as a guest conductor, leading 66 of Arizona’s most talented musicians in a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

“We are grateful to have such a talented athlete and respected member of the community both on and off the field join us as we open our exciting season,” said Jim Ward, CEO and President of The Phoenix Symphony.

While no one is expecting the second coming of Bach or Beethoven, we have a hunch that for one night Fitzgerald will be the one with the biggest smile.

After all, for at least one night, he will be in complete control.
