Astros prospect’s dad catches his son’s first home run of season

Thanks for the support, Dad!

Conrad Gregor, a first baseman for the Quad Cities River Bandits, a Houston Astros Single-A affiliate, recently smacked his first homer of the season, taking about 150 at-bats to get there.

That was a pretty cool feat in itself, but what’s even more remarkable is that the ball was caught by none other than Marty Gregor — yes, his father — behind the right-center field wall on Saturday.

The elder Gregor pumped his arms and proudly waved the ball in the air, the Quad-City Times says, and the announcers didn’t know it was Conrad’s father at the time.

Marty was watching his son while on a family trip from Carmel, Ind., which is about a five-hour drive away.

“He may have to watch every game from out there,” Gregor said. “It’s a little unbelievable, but I’m glad my parents were here to see it and when I got back to the dugout, I heard he made a pretty good catch.”

Talk about an early Father’s Day present.

Gregor’s three-run blast erased Quad City’s one-run deficit Saturday and helped propel the River Bandits to a 5-2 win and a series sweep. Although it was Gregor’s first long ball of the year, he is second on the team with a .407 batting average.
