From leading the Arizona Cardinals all-time in receiving, to the kind deeds Larry Fitzgerald Jr. does, he continues to make his father proud.
Thursday, Fitzgerald Jr. received the Lifetime of Inspiration Award from the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration.
“It meant a lot to me to be able to accept it on his behalf,” Larry Fitzgerald Sr. said on 98.7 FM Arizona Sports Station’s The Blitz with B-Train and Jurecki Friday. “It means so much when you know that your son really appreciates people recognizing the things that he’s trying to do.”
When Fitzgerald Sr. looks back at how he raised his son, he gets passionate seeing how much he has accomplished.
“I get emotional because I raised this kid, and taught him,” Larry Fitzgerald Sr. said. “And he listened, and he’s learned. He has gotten himself to be someone.”
As a reporter covering the Super Bowl, Fitzgerald Sr. gets a lot of recognition for what his son has been able to accomplish. The incredible amount of respect that people around the league have for Fitzgerald Jr. makes his father extremely proud.
Even though Fitzgerald Jr. has done so much, his father is always there encouraging him to do even more outside of football.
“And he is doing more,” Fitzgerald Sr. said. “That means a lot to a father.”
Even though Fitzgerald Jr. accepted a one year extension with the Cardinals back in November and former teammates believe he is leaning toward coming back, Fitzgerald Jr. will need to decide whether or not he will retire this offseason.
“Cardinals fans, keep our fingers crossed,” Fitzgerald Sr. said. “He might be coming back.”
