You’ll never guess how Amar’e Stoudemire uses red wine to rehab

Feb 12, 2015, 7:44 PM | Updated: 7:44 pm

The perpetually injured New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire has a unique way to relax and rehab.

He partakes in red-wine baths.

ESPN The Magazine recently talked to the 13-year NBA forward about his unconventional baths, and reporter Sam Alipour started the interview tub-side before eventually being coaxed to jump into the liquid as well.

Stoudemire said a friend recommended it, and he initially was hesitant, but after doing some research, the six-time All-Star took the plunge.

He also said he doesn’t use the cheap stuff, so you can imagine how each bath would add up to a hefty sum. Then again, he’s made around $20 million in each of the past three seasons, so what’s a few gallons of high-end red wine to the 32-year-old forward?

Stoudemire also said he’s never tasted the wine he bathes in, but Alipour said he would probably try it — if he weren’t sharing the same bath with the 6-foot-10 former Phoenix Sun, who has missed 107 games over the past two and a half seasons.

Alipour concludes by asking the NBA veteran what his teammates think of the rehab tactic, and whether he was in the midst of the strangest interview he’s ever done. See Stoudemire’s answers to those questions in the ESPN video above.
